AA Degree Options & Requirements
Requirements for degree options I, II, and III:
- Complete 12 credit hours of course work at Coastline Community College.
- Complete specific courses listed in Groups A-E from degree options listed below.
- Complete 60 credit hours of acceptable required and elective courses work at one or more regionally accredited institutions with a 2.0 "C" overall GPA and a 2.0 "C" GPA earned at Coastline.
- Complete at least 2.5 units of Global and Multicultural Studies
After completing 12 semester credit hours at Coastline (excluding experiential credit), a maximum of up to 40 semester credits hours of non-traditional course work will be awarded and posted to the student’s transcript upon determination of military schools, and CLEP or DANTES test scores.
- Course work taken at other accredited colleges and universities may apply toward an A.A. Degree at Coastline College. Forward all official college transcripts and/or CLEP/DANTES test scores to Coastline Community College
- Students should seek the advice of an authorized academic advisor before beginning any degree program.
Option 1 – This program is designed for students who wish to complete a specific area of concentration or specialized emphasis (rate or MOS related) degree or complete a Certificate of Achievement along with an A.A. degree. This option may also be used for students wishing to complete a general studies major. Although, this option is primarily for students who do not intend to transfer, it may be used to transfer to some independent colleges. It is always recommended that you check with the transferring institution.
This degree option will earn a student an AA degree and all the general education courses taken in pursuit of this degree option will apply toward a 4-year degree. However, additional lower division coursework may be required before transferring as a junior. It is recommended that students seek the advice of a counselor from their intended transfer institution.
Option II – Transfer Plan for CSU– This program is designed for individuals who plan to transfer to the California State University or a four year accredited university system and who also wish to complete an A.A. degree. Upon certification this option meets the lower division California State University system general education breadth requirements. This option will also enable individuals to transfer to some of the private or four year institutions.
Option III – Transfer Plan for IGETC (CSU or UC) – This program is designed for individuals who plan to transfer to the University of California system or the California State University system and who also wish to complete an A.A. degree. Students who complete this option with a "C" or better will satisfy lower division general education requirements for the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC). Upon certification, it meets the lower-division general education breadth requirements for both the UC and CSU systems. The IGETC option also enables individuals to transfer to most of the private or four year institutions.
