Coastline Community College is a California Community College
accredited by the Western Associate of Schools and College and is
one of three colleges in the Coast Community College District. Since
its founding in 1947, the Coast District has enjoyed a reputation as
one of the leading community college districts in the United States.
Governed by a locally elected board of trustees, the Coast District
plays an important role in the community by responding to the needs
of a changing and increasingly diverse population. Coastline’s
sister colleges are Orange Coast College and Golden West College.
Coastline was conceived to be a “college without a campus,” to
provide non-traditional and innovative resources, facilities and
services to meet the needs of “non-traditional” students desiring
access to higher education. Still fulfilling its original mission,
Coastline offers a comprehensive program of transfer, vocational,
and general interest courses at times, in places, and in formats
designed to serve the special needs of students with substantial
employment and family responsibilities.
Coastline is a nationally recognized leader in Distance Learning.
Coastline has been at the forefront of Distance Learning
instructional design and delivery since its inception in 1976. The
college has extensive facilities to support the design and delivery
of technology-mediated instruction, including an Instructional
Resources Center, a cable origination center, and a recently opened
technology-enhanced learning center that includes lecture halls and
classrooms from which videoconferencing and cablecasts can
originate. Coast Learning Systems is the national marketing and
distribution division of the college, an award-winning producer of
instructional media, and recipient of fourteen Emmy Awards.
Coastline also operates a large, fully-staffed department to support
the delivery of distance learning courses.

institution, Coastline provides 12 areas of concentration serving 35
Navy ratings.

the needs of the military community, regardless of the military
branch.
Coastline’s Military Outreach Distance Learning Program currently
serves more than 7,000 military servicemembers each year. During the
