Options I Degree Plan
Under the Option I Degree Plan, Coastline has developed rating-related degree roadmaps guiding military personnel toward completion of an AA degree. Coastline awards credit hours for military training and experience, up to a maximum of 40, utilizing ACE recommended guidelines. Depending on a sailor's rate and rank, awarded credit may fulfill the credit hour requirements toward a specific area of concentration for one of our several rating-related degrees.

While the Option I rate-related degree plan is designed for a student whose immediate goal is to obtain an AA Degree, additional general education coursework may be necessary for those who intend to pursue a 4-year degree. Once all requirements are met to earn the Option I AA degree, it is recommended that students continue to take additional general education courses at Coastline to prepare for transfer to a 4-year institution.

Based on the Option I rate-related degree program, an A.A. degree may be earned upon the completion of 60 credit hours, with a minimum of 12 credit hours taken from Coastline, and fulfillment of specific requirements as outlined below.

General Education Requirement: Completion of 18 credit hours in specific courses listed in Groups A-E are required for a rate-related degree. Completion of an additional 18 credit hours in specific courses listed in Groups A-E are required for the General Studies emphasis.

Rate-Related/Specialized Emphasis Requirement: Completion of at least 18 credit hours in an area of concentration such as military training and experience addressing specific Navy enlisted rates which have been evaluated and approved by the college.

Elective Requirement: Completion of at least 24 credit hours of free electives and/or evaluated military credit. Credit awarded in excess of 18 credit hours (which may include evaluated credit earned from military training and experience, coursework taken at another college or university, and/or additional general education course work may be applied to the elective requirement) may be applied to the elective requirement.

Math Competency: Passing the Math Placement Test or completion of one year of high school algebra with a grade of "C" or better, or passing elementary algebra or higher level math course at Coastline or another college with a grade of "C" or better or ratings that include technical math or higher.

Global/Multicultural Studies Requirement: Completion of at least 2.5 units.
